Making a Difference in Tampa Bay
We wouldn’t be able to accomplish our restoration or education goals without the help of our volunteers! At the Tampa Bay Watch Discovery Center, they play an essential role to educate visitors about the local ecosystem, Tampa Bay Watch's work to restore it, and how they can help. The conversations they have with guests can inspire a lifetime of learning and environmental stewardship!
Volunteer on the Pier
Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Tampa Bay Watch Discovery Center. Explore our current volunteer needs below!
There is no special experience or knowledge required, we will provide training materials and you will be invited to shadow an experienced volunteer or staff member before you begin.
Touch Tank
Volunteering at the touch tank involves guiding guests as they interact with the exhibit, to keep both guests and animals safe. You are encouraged to engage with visitors in conversation about the creatures on display, the local ecosystem, and Tampa Bay Watch's work. You will be an important advocate for our programs and the Bay!
Touch tank volunteers should be available to attend a regularly scheduled half-day shift at least once a week.
Tabling at the Discovery Center
Our volunteers may also host educational activities right outside the Discovery Center’s doors, or within the exhibit gallery, in the form of tabling! This involves engaging with St. Pete Pier visitors about the topics on display in our facility and Tampa Bay Watch’s work.
Aboard Our Eco-Vessel
Touch tank volunteers with three or more months of experience at the Discovery Center are invited to help out aboard our eco-vessel during wildlife boat tours! This involves assisting our biologists with fisheries trawl net pulls, data collection, and interacting with guests.
